How to Chat?

Note: For questions or remarks about the chat, please open a ticket at our support system, or find us on IRC in chatroom #help.

To chat on Chat4all.org, you will need a chat client. There are two options to accomplish this:

1. Chatting through your web browser, at this site or at your own site.

2. Chatting through a stand alone program such as mIRC.

With the first option you will use a platform independent JAVA program through which you will have access to the chat from within any website. To use this option you will need a JAVA enabled webbrowser. Most browsers have been configured this way by default.

There are now also 3rd party services available such as Mibbit, which allow users to connect to IRC servers by using the browser. Mibbit is recommended.

With the second option you will make use of a stand alone IRC program which will operate independently of webbrowsers. A list of IRC software can be found on our wiki site.

It is always advisable to make use of a stand alone program because with such program you will have access to all options and commands which are available through IRC, the chat will become more fluid and faster, and it will be visually more appealing.

Regardless of which option you choose (Standalone or your own JAVA applet), you always need to know how to connect to our IRC server. Connections can be made either the regular way, or secure:

  1. Regular - Connect to server irc.chat4all.org with port numbers: 6666, 6667, 6668, 6669 or 7000.

The connection can be made from within mIRC with the following command (include the / ):

    /server irc.chat4all.org <portnumber>
  2. Secure - We also offer a secure connection. This means the datastream will be encrypted, and thus much more secure for prying eyes. You will however need a SSL capable IRC client.

The secure connection must be made on port number 7001 and can be made with the following command (include the / ):

    /server irc.chat4all.org +7001
